PPSI has always acknowledged and valued the wealth of skills offered by our many writers and editors. In August this year the PAREXEL Fellowship of Medical Writers & Editors was founded, with a charter to recognize, support, and enhance our world-class medical writers and editors. A key component of the Fellowship is the Professional Development Academy. The Academy aims to provide tailored training for our writers and editors (and support staff) throughout their career within MedCom. Hence, the Academy provides 3 levels of training programs: foundation, senior, and master. Inauguration of the foundation program took place on September 1, 2006 and the training available includes effective writing for various media, editorial processes, prelaunch marketing, print and production, and publication best practice. Watch out for details of the senior and master programs, which will be launched in 2007.
Of our full-time medical writers and editors:
- 74% have postgraduate degrees of which 60% are PhDs
- ~ 50% are published authors: > 650 publications
- 8 languages are spoken fluently—in addition to English!
- Several are reviewers on renowned medical journals
- A number teach courses at the Open University (UK) and at colleges and schools.
Across our offices in the US (Hackensack, NJ and Stamford, CT) and the UK (Worthing and Uxbridge), the editorial Center of Excellence comprises 100 writers and editors. Clients recognize our world-class capabilities in scientific excellence, medical writing expertise, and copy editing/QC skills—all of which have helped to establish us as a world leader in medical communications.
