If you want to know the answers to these questions:

Then you should indulge in The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. It is a book about change which presents a new way of understanding why change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. Gladwell proposes that the answer is that ideas, behavior, messages, and products sometimes behave just like outbreaks of infectious disease. They are social epidemics.

In addition to analyzing examples, the author hopes that he can show people how to start "positive" epidemics of their own. Because epidemics take a small amount of input to start, but can spread very, very quickly, they are of obvious and enormous interest to everyone from educators trying to reach students, to businesses trying to spread the word about their product, or for that matter to anyone who's trying to create a change with limited resources.
